National Milling company today announced that it has increased the price for flour by 6%
“Man shall not live by bread alone”, and here in Guyana he may have a new reason to follow that part of the scripture.
The National Milling company today announced, that it has increased the price for flour by 6%, owing to the severe drought in parts of the United States, which has resulted in an increase in the price for wheat. Initially the milling company was looking to increase the flour price by 12% but reduced that to 6 on the advice of the Commerce Ministry.
The National Milling Company in a statement said this is the first increase since March of last year and customers should know that the price being charges is the lowest in this part of the world.
The company is asking customers to understand the need for the increase and has promised that once the price for wheat goes down on the international market, the price for flour in Guyana will be reduced also.
The 6% increase is more than likely expected to have an impact on the price for bread and other flour products at the bakeries.
