BREAKING NEWS: Another Major Cocaine Bust at Guyana’s Cheddi Jagan Airport

Several staffers at the Cheddi Jagan airport are in custody this morning after over 55 pounds of cocaine was discovered in a suitcase that had already been loaded onto a Caribbean Airlines flight to New York. The bust was made just before 2 this Sunday morning and is one of the largest drug hauls at the airport in recent.

The Customs Anti Narcotics Unit may have realised that something was going on and waited until the last moment just as the aircraft was about to pull out from the departure gate and blocked that departure requesting that all baggage carts already locked in the plane be offloaded and rechecked.

CANU’s instincts proved right as the cocaine laden suitcase was found already packed away in the baggage hold of the OMNI Airways aircraft being operated by Caribbean Airlines. Immediately several staffers from the security check points to the baggage handling and ground handling areas were pulled in for questioning and they all remain in custody.

Over the past 3 months there has been an increase in efforts to get cocaine out via the airport and in almost all of those cases the bags would be unchecked bags appeared to have been loaded from the back of the airport. details emerging.
