Deadline for the submission of statements by witnesses of July 18th Linden shooting advertised
In an advertisement published in the newspapers, the Commission of Inquiry gave next Friday as the deadline for the submission of statements by witnesses, to the July 18th events, which left three Lindeners dead. The Commission of Inquiry has been set up to inquire and report on the circumstances surrounding the shooting to death of Ivan Lewis, Ron Sommerset, Shemroy Boyea and the injury of several other persons at the Wismar-McKenzie bridge.
Persons wishing to testify before the Commission first have to give written statements containing the nature and substance of their proposed evidence.
Statements are being accepted at the Secretariat of the Commission, at the Supreme Court Library and at the Linden Secretariat, housed at the NIS building in McKenzie.
The Commission has hired two lawyers to assist persons with writing their statements. However, the two attorneys have come under the microscope of the opposition. The coalition APNU, has claimed that the men are attached to the law firm of Attorney General, Anil Nandlall, and have urged persons not to seek their assistance in writing and submitting their statements. The Commission of Inquiry has not responded to APNU’s objection.
Once the statements are collected, the Commission will decide who it will ask to testify.
