Guyana Jaguars go up against El Savador this evening in crucial FIFA qualifier match
In Football: Guyana Golden Jaguars plays El Salvador this evening, in what has been dubbed a “do or die” match in the Fifa 2014 World Cup Qualifiers. Winning tonight’s match will keep Guyana’s chances of qualifying alive. Last Friday the Jaguars held their higher ranked opponents to a 2-all draw in El Salvador to earn their first points in the group.
Head Coach, Jamaal Shabaaz, continues to plead for support of the team in this important stage of their qualifying journey.
In Cricket: The West Indies will have to post totals in excess of 180, if they are to be competitive in the upcoming 20/20 World Cup, to be played in a week’s time. They will also be relying heavily on spin to get them through the Matches. That’s the opinion of Regional commentator Guyanese, Reds Pereira.
Pereira said, that The West Indies have been given the favourite tag, but they will do well to just focus on their games match by match.
In Basketball: The Pepsi Sonics Basketball club will be trying to get their game going later this month with the running off of a tournament billed ‘Refresh Your Game’.
The tournament will have two segments; a First Division and a Third Division. President of the Pepsi Sonics Club, Merle Chalmers, said they are trying to keep their members occupied in a meaningful way.
The tournament will recognize the contributions of deceased President of the GABF, Godwin Mc Pherson, and will see the first division winner walk away with GUY $100,000 in cash and a trophy. Second place finisher will take home GUY $50,000 and a trophy, while the third Division teams will get trophies.
The club President says they would welcome any assistance in the form of sponsorship to help make the tournament truly successful.
