Former Police Commissioner Henry Greene killed in an early morning accident on the West Coast

Former Police Commissioner Henry Greene, was reportedly heading to Georgetown from Parika, when he was involved in a collision with two other vehicles – a car, and a Bakewell delivery truck. A nine-year-old girl from Berbice, who was in the car,  also died in the accident.

Two of the injured men claim that Greene was speeding heading to the city when he collided with a Carina 192 motorcar and ended up in the path of the Bakewell delivery truck.

Greene and nine-year-old Alicia Jamadeen, were killed and nine persons were injured in the smash up which occurred at Waller’s Delight, West Coast Demerara. One of the injured salesman in the Bakewell vehicle said that they had to pull over to avoid a head on collision. While one of the survivors in the motorcar said that it all happened so fast and he was thankful to be alive.

Greene was pulled from the wreckage and was rushed to the West Demerara Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Initial reports reaching Capitol News said that Greene appeared to have no external injuries but the vehicle of the former top cop appeared to have bloodstains on the driver’s side.

Residents in the area said that they heard the crashing sound and when they came out persons were crying for help.

Those injured were transported to the Georgetown Public Hospital to receive further medical attention. Police are investigating the accident.

Under Greene’s tenure as Commissioner, some of the more notorious criminal gangs were neutralized with the killing of leading gang members. Green also presided over one of the most violent crime sprees in Guyana when multiple killings took place at Lusignan, Bartica and Lindo Creek.
