Guyana Safe Injection Project concluded
The United States Agency for International Development, USAID, and the Ministry of Health ended their partnership project that tackled injection safety. The Guyana Safe Injection Project was undertaken over a 12-month period. While funded by the US government, the project was owned and managed by Guyana. Several injection safety programmes were completed under the project.
The Minister of Health, Dr. Bheri Ramsaran, spoke at the event about his hopes of continuing the training of health care workers in Guyana.
So far over 800 health workers were trained in the program. In addition, seven health care facilities were certified as injection safe facilities, while 30 waste handlers were trained on proper incineration operation and waste management.
