Cocaine failed to pass
The Law Enforcement officers are questioning two persons after arresting them in connection with the discovery of a quantity of cocaine at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, Timehri.
One of those arrested is a staff member of Roraima Airways Security detail while the other is associated with the Waterchris Airline Catering Company.
The individuals were about to enter the restricted area on the tarmac when they were requested to do a secondary screening. The airport security was concerned that the Roraima Airways young security officer appeared to be at an unusual entry point with the Catering van.
Capitol news understands that over a kilo of cocaine was allegedly secreted among clean linen in a grey bag that was being transported to the Delta Airline plane that flies non-stop to New York. Today is a Holiday in the United States.
Drugs have been transiting that airport for several years. Within the last few months drugs have been discovered at the airport at various locations and particularly when there are non-stop flights to New York. The Airport authority recently moved to pull passes from some airline employees. An employee of a security service from the Ogle Airport was also arrested in New York for transporting cocaine from Guyana. That particular case raised concerns about background checks since persons who were deported from the United States for drugs were found to be working security and sensitive positions within airport offices and related services.
