Technical Team to examine all aspects of electricity generation, distribution and tariffs in Linden.
While there has been no clear signal from the government to withdraw the electricity rate hike in Linden, today, region ten officials and the government agreed that a technical team would examine all aspects of electricity generation, distribution and tariffs in Linden.
The committee would consider arrangements to provide electricity to Linden and the trafiff,s to sustain such arrangements within a sustainable time frame. The members of the committee could be agreed on by Friday, with Region ten proposing three members and the government proposing another three. A sticky point could be an agreement on a consensus chairman.
While this might represent a move forward in the negotiation process, there is yet a long road ahead. Region Ten chairman Sharma Solomon said the people of Linden are not prepared to let up on their demands.
The Region Ten chairman said that the community is concerned about statements being made by government officials, including the labeling of some of them as extremists.
The negotiations continue on Friday.
