Still working on Commission of Inquiry

The Government and the Opposition Coalition, A Partnership for National Unity may have to go back to the drawing table and discuss the terms of reference for the Commission of Inquiry into the Linden Protests and the action by the police force that left 3 protestors dead. On Thursday the Legal Affairs Minister Anil Nandall unveiled a final draft of the terms of reference.

The opposition raised some concern saying that the government’s move appears premature especially since the issues were still being discussed.

President Ramotar had given up to the 2nd August for the draft terms of reference to be completed so the commission of inquiry could be put together and the probe started. The AFC has always maintained that it should be an international commission. The APNU has said it is open to that idea believing there should be an international component. Region 10 officials say the international component would be important.
