No Confidence debate rolls on
As the debate into the no confidence motion in Home Affairs Minister Clement Rohee continued in the National Assembly today, former Police Commissioner now Member of Parliament for the APNU Winston Felix lambasted the Home Affairs Minister and the Police force for their handling of the Linden protest. Felix who served in the police force for a number of decades said the Minister must accept responsibility.
The former top cop reiterated statements he had made outside the parliament that the police force appeared unprepared for the Linden protests and did not follow standard operating procedures with regard to how to deal with protests.
Natural Resources Minister Robert Persaud in standing by Rohee and against the motion said the protests at linden have already had a devastating impact on the mining and forestry sectors.
The motion was put forward by opposition leader David Granger who said the Home Affairs Minister cannot divorce himself from the police operation at linden to disperse a protesting crowd
