The Demerara Habour Bridge is expected to be re-opened
Engineers are working around the clock to ensure that light traffic is accommodated on the Demerara habour bridge by mid-day on Wednesday and to normalcy by later this week.
The bridge was open to pedestrians today and a makeshift system was put in place, according to the manager Rawlston Adams.
At the time of the collapse of the replacement pontoon maintenance was being conducted on the original pontoon. Adams said that the tide plays an integral part in their ability to effectively carry out their repairs.
Adams could not put a cost to the damage but said that all the repair works are being carried out by employees of the Habour Bridge.
