Granger writes President on Linden Electricity Rates
Opposition Leader David Granger today joined the protest by Lindeners and social activists outside the office of the President calling for there to be a review of the government’s imposition of those new electricity rates. Granger has been meeting with community leaders and residents of Linden and two days ago he dispatched a letter to the President raising the concerns of Lindeners and the need for the increases to be reviewed. He said the APNU will not be letting up on its support for the town.
APNU point man on financial matters, Member of Parliament Carl Greenidge spoke about the economic implications the increases could have on citizens of the town. He said the government has made no serious effort over the years to take any economic activity to the community that would be sustainable.
From July 1 the government imposed new electricity tariffs on the community. Residents say the move will see their electricity bills being increased by as much as 300%.
