Former top cop and Member of Parliament Winston Felix has dismissed the recent justification offered by the home affairs minister Clement Rohee over the purchase of the 37million dollar water cannonWinston Felix has dismissed the justification of the purchase 37million dollar water cannon.
Felix believes that at this juncture the immediate need of the force should have been addressed and that he believes is to better equip the force to deal with the changing nature of crime.
Rohee did not like what was said by Felix and went on a verbal assault against the former police chief, he insists that the purchase of the water cannon was part of the force’s modernization plan.
But what was embarrassing for Minister Rohee was the demonstration exercise for the cannon conducted by the force. Felix is contending that since in the 1960s Guyana has not experienced any riotous behaviour that warrants the need for a water cannon.
Criminal elements over the years have been using far more advanced equipment than the Guyana police force to conduct their illegal activities.
