Opposition parties on Audit office
The Alliance for Change is calling for a review of a decision by the Public Accounts Committee of the National Assembly that relates to the appointment of Audit Directors at the next meeting.
That decision to approve the appointments is being questioned since the Finance Minister’s wife is one of those who were promoted. The AFC believes that the approved appointment of the Minister’s wife is a conflict of interest since her office has oversight over the Ministry her husband heads.
AFC executive Member Moses Nagamootoo said the party finds the appointment of the Minister’s wife to be highly unethical and the process in which it was done as flawed voting based on ill advice.
A Partnership for National Unity Executive Member, Lance Carberry said the matter is one that the party finds unacceptable and the government seems insensitive about the appointment.
The Auditor General’s office is an independent body with oversight over government’s spending.
