Freddie Kissoon’s lawyers to launch their defence against Former President Jagdeo’s lawsuit
It’s now time for Freddie Kissoon’s lawyers to launch their defence and they intend to go the whole nine yards to prove their case against the former President. Jagdeo has sued for ten million dollars claiming that a column entitled “King Kong Sent His Goons to Disrupt the Conference” pointed to Jagdeo as King Kong. The former President has claimed that the article suggests that he is a racist and that by extension the state and government of Guyana practise racism as an ideology, dogma, philosphy and policy.
The publisher of Kaieteur News and it’s Editor-In-Chief are also named in the charge filed by Jagdeo. The defence team plans to call over a dozen witnesses to establish their case. The first of these witnesses will be called on July 30th and is expected to be an international academic who has examined the issue of racism and marginalisation under Jagdeo’s presidency .
The defence team is unlikely to bring Jagdeo to the stand. As far as the defence is concerned Jagdeo had a chance to back up his case and refused to do so personally.
