Minister Robeson Benn says there is no reason to stop the US 138M airport project.
Weeks ago it was revealed that the parent company of the airport contractor was blacklisted from certain projects by the world bank over corrupt practices. Today Minister Robeson Benn, who is responsible for the Aviation Sector said he has found nothing that could block the project from continuing. The Chinese are building the airport for 138 Million US dollars.
The airport expansion project was signed last year shortly before then President Bharrat Jagdeo, demitted office and was only made known locally when the signing was announced in a Jamaican newspaper. Minister Benn said the contract was executed according to the laws of Guyana.
In the coming days Benn said he will put in detail his findings about the company and give the advise to the Government. As far as he is concerned there is nothing wrong with the company and the amount of 138 million US dollars is just right. Guyana is getting value for money.
