Smooth moves 3 on 3 basketball action is in the air again and the organizers and sponsors are making it into a more tangible competition.
The preliminary competition which is coming under the Mackeson brand distributed by Ansa Mc Al will be played on different courts starting in two weeks time and the aim is to encourage the youths in those areas to get involved.
President of the GABA David Patterson was very happy for the support given by Ansa Mc Al and likes the innovations that the organizers are making.
Prize money for the winning team is one million dollars cash and team members must be eighteen years and older.
The WICB under 17 tournament bowls off on Sunday in Trinidad and Tobago and “A” Guyana team is expected to take part. A WICB release has given fixtures that will see Trinidad take on The Leeward Islands and Guyana coming up against The Windward Islands.
The competition will be the one day format and will run for 5 rounds which means that with 6 teams playing there will be 15 matches.
The third round matches will carry some significance when Guyana takes on the Leeward Islands as the sons of two West Indian test players will be facing off on opposite teams. Taijnarine Chanderpaul son of WI batting Star and Saeed Williams son of Former LWI opener will look to emulate their illustrious fathers.
But back in Guyana there seems to be confusion as to who authorized an encampment of the team since no cricket Board official is functioning. This newscast understands that former GCB Vice President Alvin Johnson will manage the squad which will leave for Trinidadon Sunday.
The Tobago House Of Assembly and Telephone Company Digicel are the sponsors of the tournament.
