Early morning fire ripped through the home of Businessman and Hotel Tower owner Salim Azeez

An early morning fire ripped through the Canal#2 West Coast Demerara home of Businessman and Hotel Tower owner Salim Azeez. Persons in the area said it was just around 3 this morning that they noticed smoke bellowing from 3 storey home. The fire service was immediately summoned but took a while to get there owing to the distance and the closest fire service being miles away.

Once the firemen got to the scene they found it difficult gaining access to the heavily fortified building with multiple security doors and heavy grill work. it is believed that the businessman was not home at the time but his son and other relatives managed to escape.

By daybreak, the fire was contained but had already swept through all 3 floors of the house completely destroying almost everything.

A neighbor said he was not at home at the time of the blaze but for months an electrical problem at the power pole in the area which supplies electricity to the house has been giving a problem.

The businessman’s mother who lives close by said she got to the scene of the fire just around 4 in the morning and had to turn back from the heat of the blaze as she said she saw the fire engulfing the power lines and sweeping through the house.

The fire service was able to contain the blaze to the one house. The fact that the house was fortified and there’s a canal just across the road allowed the fire men to take control of the blaze easily. The home owner Salim Azeez was not seen at the scene of the fire up to hours after the blaze had taken place.
