The Bank of Guyana has recommended and intends to introduce a $5,000 bill.
The Cabinet has given its approval for the Bank of Guyana to introduce a higher denomination note which could come on stream in a few months. The Bank of Guyana has recommended and intends to introduce a $5,000 bill.
The $1000 bill is currently the highest denomination note and will remain in circulation with the other notes when the new note is introduced.
Cabinet Secretary Dr Roger Luncheon today said the introduction of the new bill does not mean that inflation has worsened.
The last time Guyana introduced a new currency note was back in 1996 with the introduction of the 1000 bill.
