National Domestic Violence talks

Domestic violence remains a major problem in society and now attention is being placed on making the current domestic violence law workable for victims while raising the level of awareness.

The National Committee on Domestic Violence will soon take to the National Assembly several pieces of regulations that should complement the current Domestic Violence Act. On Monday the Ministry of Human Services and Social Security announced that it will begin a national conversation on the issue of domestic violence.
Human Services and Social Security Minister Jennifer Webster said the social problem is one that is lacking a national response and she is of the view that it should be tackled by all members of society.
Already for the year 12 women have lost their lives due to domestic violence and now the Ministry is hoping to bring about change in the way domestic violence is being treated at the community level.
The National Conversations on Domestic Violence will take the form of community meetings and will officially be launched on Wednesday .It is expected to start from next month until November in several communities across the country.
