GT&T wary of vandals
The Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company is crying out once again against damages to its cables and network. The company says the latest problems affected its DSL service and was the work of vandals and thieves. GT&T CEO Yog Mahadeo today said the company loses millions of dollars everytime thieves attack its systems and customers are affected. For DSL customers, they will enjoy a 25% discount on their next internet bill as the company tries to win back the favour of complaining customers.
Mahadeo said the problem has become such a big one, that communities like Sophia have started their own neighborhood watch group to prevent further vandalism.
Meanwhile, auditors from the company’s parent group ATN are still in Guyana sifting through the local operations. 4 senior GT&T managers all connected to the finance division remain on leave while the probe is done.
With all that’s happening the company has still reported record profits and an increase in subscribers to its various services.
