World of Sport for Thursday 21st June, 2012

GCB’s lawyer Sanjeev Datadin says that the GCB is very hopeful that its case challenging the setting up of an Interim Management Committee by Guyana’s  Minister of Sport, will be heard and he expects that it will be favourably concluded. The Caribbean Court of Justice last week ruled that the court of Appeal in Guyana can hear the application by the GCB. The Appeal court had dismissed the case when it came before them saying it had no jurisdiction to hear the case.

And recently the Minister of Sport said that the IMC has completed its report and has a draft constitution which will be circulated to all the county boards for their agreement before being accepted. The presence of two constitutions was one of several contentious issues that saw the affairs of the board reaching the courts.

Chairman of the IMC West Indies most successful test Captain Clive Lloyd said that it is frustrating to see the cricketers suffer as a result of the current stalemate where the courts have barred the executive of the GCB from administering cricket, a move which prompted the whole resignation of the entire cricket board.

With just 2 more matches left on the Windies coach Otis Gibson said they are still tring to find the right balance with the players that they have. He conceded that with the return of Gayle, Dwayne Bravo and Kieron Pollard everyone expected to see the Windies post huge totals but this has not been the case. He said the situation may be different in the Caribbean when New Zealand comes here in a matter of weeks.

Gibson also hinted that there may be the need for two spinners in the squad which could be good news for Guyanese leg spinner Devendra Bishoo who was dropped  after the Australian tour. Bishoo has been playing in the West Indies A squad which won their series against India

The West play England in the final one day tomorrow at Headingly.
