Workers union to picket for Better salaries and benefits for qualified lecturers at the University of Guyana
Better salaries and benefits for qualified lecturers at the University of Guyana are what the workers union will be lobbying for as the body prepares for a six day industrial action beginning Wednesday.
That industrial action will come when most of the exams would have been completed and students would be home.
The University of Guyana Senior Staff Association and The Workers Union will join forces in the form of a picketing exercise since they feel that workers are being disrespected by the University’s Council.
President of UG’s Senior Staff Association Dr. Pat Francis said the council negotiating team was expected to meet earlier this week to begin talks on the Demands for workers. That meeting never took place.
Dr. Francis indicated that the industrial action will not affect the upcoming summer programmes of the University and the union is ready to negotiate in good faith with the council.
The President of UG’s Senior Staff Association said the picketing exercise is expected to last until June 26.
A few months back a number of protests were held at the Turkeyen campus when the administration there did not renew the contracts for a number of lecturers.
