World of Sport for Monday 18th June, 2012.
After several exciting preliminaries an electric atmosphere is anticipated when the regional finals for the guinness Caribbean street football challenge kicks off on Thursday at the National Park. Over one and a half million dollars will be at stake as the tournament prepares to welcome teams from Trinidad, Grenada and St Lucia St Vincent and the Grenadines. Back circle will represent Guyana while the team from Haiti has pulled out of the tournament at the last minute because of flight problems the organizers said.
Troy Mendonca who is one of the organizers of the tournament is very upbeat going into the matches.
Mendonca also gave the undertaking that security will be tightened during these matches.
And Chris Gayle the attacking West Indies opener is in a race against time to be fit for tomorrow’s 2nd one day international at the KIA oval. The West Indies sorely missed Gayle’s explosive batting in last Saturday’s match which the WI lost by 114 runs. With Darren Bravo already back in the Caribbean after injuring his hip. The Caribbean side will be looking for runs from the middle order. The final one day will be held on Friday at Trentbridge.
