Traffic congestion during the rush hours along the East Bank of Demerara is expected to be a thing of the past once the four lane road project is completed. But the end of that congestion seems to be the least of concerns to residents who live along the area where the road works are being done.
Several residents of the Herstelling community are faced with a serious dust problem.
Resident Artnell Carew who has lived here with his two daughters and wife for well over 30 years is not pleased with all the dust that is taking over his home.
Other residents along the area said they hope the project can be completed in a timely manner since heavy traffic and the wind blowing the sand from across the road has made their lives miserable. Usually when road works are being done, the contractors would wet the road to cut back on the dust pollution.
The East Bank Road project is expected to last for three years and until then residents are hoping that the works are carried out in a manner that does not make their lives uncomfortable.
