6th Annual Association of Caribbean Election Organizations meeting opening.
Chairman of The Association of Caribbean Election Organizations Dr. Norbert Masson believes that while electoral bodies are important it must be noted that governments should not forget their obligations to the development of the country. He was at the time delivering remarks at the 6th Annual General Meeting of the Association which opened today here in Georgetown.
Over the next two days the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) will be hosting the annual general meeting that is being convened at the Princess International Hotel.
President Donald Ramotar said an Election Commission of any country plays an important role in society and it is his view that there should be a more integrated approach among such bodies in the region.
Chairman of the Guyana Elections Commission Dr. Steve Surujbally said he hopes at the end of the meeting that the sharing of knowledge would be realized among electoral bodies.
Participants from twelve Election Management Bodies which are members of the Association will be part of the meeting along with members from the International Foundation for Electoral Systems, the Organisation of American States, and the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance. Several topics are on the agenda for discussion which include strategic planning for effective electoral management and identifying areas of mutual cooperation among members.
