APNU Calling for a full Investigation into Police Allegations
The opposition coalition A partnership for National Unity wants a thorough and full investigation into the latest round of allegations being fired off against senior police officers about their alleged links to persons in the drug underworld. A number of opposition parties had raised the issue before. The APNU wants to see some action.
A Partnership for National Unity pointed to the recent incident involving a number of presidential guards who in vigilante style moved in and attempted to destroy equipment belong to a sand operation owner who had a problem with a former business partner. Equipment were destroyed in the process but the hired presidential guards were never placed before the courts.
The Partnership said it is dissatisfied with the official responses and remedies to the epidemic of crime. A-P-N-U demands that the PPP/C administration stops expressing concern, starts investigating the causes for such persistent criminality, removes officers of any rank found guilty of these offences and rebuilds a credible law-enforcement Force that can ‘serve and protect’ the Guyanese people.
