Report From Prison Commission Still Delayed

The much anticipated New Amsterdam prison commission of inquiry report is now in hands of the minister of home affair Clement Rohee. Capitol news understands that the report was submitted on Tuesday.

Since the June 11 jail break the teams headed by retired major general Norman Mc Lean and police crime Chief Seelall Persaud where on the ground examining ways to make the prison environment more secure. Capitol News understands that the report will take into consideration the shortage of man power at the prisons and the security arrangements that are in place.

Meanwhile Home Affairs minister Clement Rohee in an invited comment said that he is expected to meet the two chairmen later this week as he take a careful look at the report.

Four inmates removed boards from the northern section of a wall in the male block and then ripped out zinc sheets from the eastern side of the fence and made good their escape.

One of the four inmates Vijay Seenarine was recaptured on Sunday in Berbice by members of the law enforcement agencies.

Those on the run are Rickford La Fleur, Kevin Narine, and Vinod Gopaul. The prisons authorities continue to be on high alert to prevent any recurrence.
