Vendors to be Removed Due to Road Expansion

As the Public Works Ministry seeks to expand the East Bank Demerara road the remaining stallholders close to the public road just outside the La Penitence Market will soon have to pack up shop.

But stall holders said they are prepared to move once they are provided with a better location while others are not too pleased.

This news cast spoke with a few vendors who said that no one from the market or public works ministry has tried meeting with them about the relocation of their stalls.

The works ministry is claiming that the stalls are in the way of the east bank road project. Just four months ago the stall holders were told that they will have to be located once the bridge at Saffon and Sussex Streets is completed. And earlier this week that very bridge was reopened to traffic.

Stall Holders are hoping that when the time comes for them to be removed that it would be done in a favorable manner.
