PPP Worried About Large Number of Unregistered Voters
The Peoples Progressive Party is now expressing concern like the other political parties that it too has recognized that there are a large number of persons who are unregistered. The party has since written the Guyana Elections Commission about the issue at hand.
PPP’s General Secretary and Presidential Candidate, Donald Ramotar said he believes the problem is a result of persons finding it difficult to produce basic source documents to GECOM.
Ramotar also highlighted the fact that some potential voters did not use the time which GECOM allocated for registration to ensure that their names are on the 2011 voters list. He noted that the PPP has seen it fit to engage GECOM on the current situation.
But even though concerns are being raised by the political parties about the large number of unregistered persons and ID cards not collected GECOM has indicated that it is confident and prepared to host a successful election this year.
