Guyana Labour Union Firing off at City Council as it Struggles to Pay Workers
Outspoken trade unionist and general secretary of the Guyana Labour Union Carvil Duncan is firing off at city hall as the cash trapped council struggles to pay its workers on time.
Duncan is of the view that city needs restructuring to ensure that salary and wages are top priority for the council. His reaction was prompted following the delay in the payment of the union workers for the month of May.
City hall has made a commitment to pay the workers by the 11th of this month, but the union is putting the council on notice that if they fail to pay up the council can expect action.
The council says its financial woes are as a result of the council being unable to broaden its revenue base to generate more income.
