Barbers Willing to Move
Some street barbers are claiming that they were never informed by the Georgetown Mayor and City Council’s Health Department about their operation being illegal.
The barbers said now that the council has decided to move them from the streets they are willing to cooperate once given enough time to relocate.
The Council’s Health Department will be moving against street barbering in different areas of the city next week. The department is expressing concern about the increasing number of roadside barber shops particularly in down town Georgetown.
In a recent interview the Chief Environmental Health officer, Kenneth Stevens said all barbers are required by law to be medically examined and licensed by the council before they can operate.
The department is also encouraging barbershops and hairdressing Salons to register for this year since 40 percent of such businesses have not complied with this requirement.
