AFC not too Pleased With GECOM After Meeting
Following a meeting with the Guyana Elections Commission the Alliance for Change is uncertain of how the electoral authority plans to address a number of the party’s concerns. On Tuesday the AFC met with GECOM’s Chairman Dr Steve Surujbally and other members of the commission.
The AFC during its weekly press briefing expressed dissatisfaction with the postponement of the earlier scheduled period for interested parties to check the list of registered persons. The party stated that the list is important since it allows them to know the names of persons on the list or the absence of any names.
AFC’s GECOM officer, David Patterson said the party’s major concern at this time is that the commission is not treating the AFC as an independent political party
Earlier this month GECOM increased the timeframe within which persons can register their claims and objections. The one hour extension during the week according to the AFC is not enough. The exercise is expected to come to an end on June 12.
