St. Joseph Mercy Hospital Ready to Rebuild
St. Joseph Mercy Hospital has unveiled its rebuilding plan which is expected to be done in two phases. Come July month end the first phase of the hospital’s rebuilding project will start which includes the renovation of the current north wing of the hospital.
The first leg of the project is expected to cost 380 Million dollars and three quarters of that amount has already been accumulated through donations and fund raiser activities. Committee Member, Chris Fernandes said the aim is to once more make the hospital one of the leading health care providers in the country. He noted the plans were already in the pipe line to upgrade the standards of the hospital.
Health Minister Dr. Leslie Ramsammy has committed governments support in the hospital’s rebuilding efforts. He spoke of the contributions that the hospital has made to the heath sector over the years.
The hospital’s Chief Executive Officer, Helen Browman said the new design for the hospital will allow the institution to improve the many services offered. This month marks a year since one of the hospital’s historic buildings was destroyed by an early morning fire. The fire completely destroyed the medical records department, one of the operating rooms and the administration offices.
