Women Of Worth Programme Proving Helpful to Single Mothers
The Women of Worth programme which was launched last year has made available over 167 million dollars to single parent mothers. The initiative is geared to empower single parent women through the fast tracking of micro finance to start up small businesses.
The programme is being done in partnership with the Guyana Bank for Trade and Industry and is tasked with the responsibility of ensuring the smooth flow of the loans.
The Bank’s Head of Credit, Shaliza Shaw reported on the success of the programme and highlighted the overwhelming response by the women in six regions.
The bank’s representative noted that the opportunity created will give women a chance that was never offered before and the bank will offer support and guidance aside from the financial help.
The bank has received well over a thousand applications to date and has already approved and disbursed over 920 loans.
