Primary School Closed By Parents
Several angry parents moved in today and shut down the Paradise Primary School on the East Coast of Demerara after numerous complaints to the Education Ministry about the school’s present condition.
The concerned group of parents believe it is unfit for their children to function in the current environment which poses a number of health risks and even to the teachers. Problems such as filthy toilets, no running water, lack of proper furnishing and an old stairway were just a few of the concerns highlighted by the parents.
The parents pointed out that rebuilding a new school now will take some time but the Education Ministry could see how best it can fix the major problems of the school.
Officials from the Education Ministry and the Regional Democratic Council Engineering department after getting wind of the protest action arrived on the scene to assess the school’s condition. According to them the school’s stairway and toilet facilities will be the first areas to receive urgent attention.
It is not the first time parents of the paradise primary School have taken such action and according to them the doors of the school will remain closed until their concerns are addressed.
