Incinerator Compound at princess Street Being Used as Dump Site
Garbage collectors remain on strike and City Hall may now be facing some additional problems with the disposal of waste. Princess street residents are now complaining over persons turning to the old incinerator compound to dump garbage. One of the residents Juliet Hinds is expressing concern over garbage being just a stone’s throw away from her home.
She said every time City Hall finds itself in a jam with the garbage collectors persons could be seen dumping garbage in that compound. Hinds noted that the garbage would usually be burnt at nights.
The woman said she is frustrated over the situation since it poses many health risks given that the community already has a history of health problems.
Capitol News was told by the Director of Solid Waste Management, Hubert Urlin that since the operations at the old incinerator stopped garbage is not allowed to be dumped in the compound. He noted that late Wednesday afternoon two trucks unknowingly to him dumped garbage in the compound and efforts are being made to have it removed.
