Caretaker Charged With Larceny and Suspected to be the Cause of the Fire at Linden
The caretaker of the Linden building that was gutted on fire on Sunday Selwyn Lancaster seen here at the fire scene was today charged for larceny and refused bail. A surveillance video of one of the stores housed in the building that was gutted by fire caught the caretaker removing money and stock from the store just moments before the fire.
The man had access to the Chinese general store from an indoor stairway. Today at court, the police prosecutor told the court that the man is also a suspect in the fire as investigations continue and that was the reason the prosecution asked the court to not grant the man bail.
Fire ravaged through the 2 story building on Sunday afternoon completely gutting the upper flat where the caretaker lived and the bottom flat which housed Digicel and the general store. Fire investigators are looking at the possibility of the fire being an arson case and as such are leaving no stone unturned in the investigations.
