GECOM Puts Deadline on Collection of ID Cards

The Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) has commenced its mandatory claims and objections exercise as it relates to entries on the preliminary list of electors for the upcoming general and regional elections. The exercise commenced today and will run until June 12.

According to one of GECOM’s Commissioner, Charles Corbin the exercise is geared at allowing citizens who may want to make queries such as a transfer, name change or correction to do so before the deadline.

GECOM temporary claims and objections offices will now be open on Mondays to Fridays from 3:30 pm to 7 pm and on weekends from 10 am to 2 pm. You should contact the commission on telephone number 225-0277 to find out the location of an office near you

The elections commission has since announced that all identification cards issued prior to the 2008 house to house registration exercise will not be accepted for voting at the upcoming general and regional elections.
