Ministry of Works Inks 476M Contract to Repair Roads
The Ministry of Public Works has recently inked several contracts valued at 476 Million Dollars which will see repairs being done on a number of streets across the city. Areas that work is expected to be done include a number of streets in Georgetown and the main access road
to Cane Grove Mahaica.
Minister Robeson Benn said the government has thought it best to slowly acquire more equipment which in turn will reduce the ministry’s dependence on private contractors in the near future.
Benn highlighted that the city’s roads are the responsibility of the Georgetown City Council but his ministry will take the job on since the roads are critical to the transportation sector.
The road work is expected to start early this month and should be completed within a four month deadline. Two Engineers will be recruited specifically to monitor and supervise the road projects to ensure that the contractors stick to their agreements.
