Bauxite Company Refuses to Pay Worker’s Medical Bill Who Was Injured on the Job
An employee who has worked with the RUSAL Bauxite Company is expressing concern about the recent decision to stop paying his medical bills as of March month end. Thirty-eight year old Otis Conway said he was involved in a vehicle accident last July while working for the company.
The accident involving Conway and several workers occurred on the Kwakwani trail. According to him they were all attached to Rusal Bauxite Company at Aroaima and were travelling to work for the night shift using a bus operated by the bauxite company.
Conway said he was the only one that was seriously injured in the accident since he suffered several broken bones.
The man who uses a walker to move around hopes that the labour union can fight his battle against the company since his family is at a disadvantage because of inability to work.
The Guyana Trades Union Congress, General Secretary Lincoln Lewis said the company has a track record of taking advantage of its employees and it’s a matter that the union intends to address.
Conway is also claiming that since the accident the company is only paying him thirty-eight hundred dollars per week which is not even half of what he would normally earn. He said RUSAL has also made it impossible for him to make any claims from the insurance company.
