AFC Presidential Candidate Meets With Business Community
The Alliance for Change Presidential Candidate, Khemraj Ramjattan said proper security for the business community is top of the agenda of his party. He believes this is necessary in light of the increased number of businesses being robbed.
Ramjattan was at the time speaking at the first in a series of luncheons for presidential candidates of the major political parties organised by the Guyana Manufacturing and Services Association.
The presidential candidate during his presentation stressed the importance of the private sector and the role it can play in improving the country’s economy.
Ramjattan highlighted that the business community has a major role to play in addressing ethnic insecurity. On the issue of corruption Ramjattan believes that there is a need for the establishment of a functioning Integrity Commission. He noted that the AFC has always called for greater transparency of public officials and that’s what his party intends to do.
The party’s presidential candidate spoke of cutting manufacturing tax, reducing the commercial corporation tax and decreasing the value added tax to 12 percent.
The Guyana Manufacturing and Services Association, President Clinton Williams said the private sector hopes to change the political climate by engaging with the major presidential candidates.
Two other meetings will be done on May 11 and 25 with the presidential candidates for the Peoples National Congress Reform and the Peoples Progressive Party Civic.
