Government Lowers Tax on Gas Putting Pressure on Minibus Operators to Lower the Bus Fare
Government has lowered the excise tax on gasoline by 10 percent today putting pressure on minibus operators to go back to the old bus fares. This Morning several minibus routes took strike action leaving commuters stranded.
The strike action was intended to pressure the government into recognizing their union and addressing several problems. But at the moment the government does not believe there should be an increase in bus fares.
Capitol News visited four bus parks this afternoon during the normal rush hour and commuters could be seen waiting on transportation.
One bus driver told this news cast, the government is not looking at the bigger picture since it is not only the rise in fuel costs but other operational costs also
The various minibus routes are demanding an increase in their fares. Many of them have already raised fares.
