King Shall not be Removed
Even as Local Government Minister Kellowan Lall called the City Council’s appointment of Royston King as the new town Clerk null and void- King said he is still prepared to carry those duties in keeping with the council’s decision.
In an interview with this newscast today, King said he does not intend to back down based on what the Minister has to say about his appointment.
He said he is fully aware of the organization’s protocols and as such is satisfied that he is abiding by a legal decision of the council to perform the duties of town clerk.
King said that despite the claims made by the Minister, he has never attempted to usurp the position of Town Clerk on his own accord.
He added that he has since sought legal advise on the matter, further confirming the council’s move to have him act in the position.
On Wednesday the Local Government Minister said that King is not the Town Clerk despite the motion passed by the council to have him take up the position with immediate effect. The Minister said he has the right to approve the recommendation for who should be the Town Clerk. He further went on to say that in the absence of a local Government service Commission, he also has the right to appoint and not merely approve. The council has called a meeting for Friday to further deal with this issue.
