Council Passes Motion for King to be Town Clerk
Even as the Minister of Local Government seems to be dragging his feet on confirming City Hall’s public relations Officer Royston King as the new Town Clerk, Officials at city Hall do not intend to put the matter to rest.
At the Council’s Statutory meeting this afternoon, Councillors moved to pass a motion which will see King taking up his new post with immediate effect. King was selected by the council as the most suitable candidate to fill the vacancy, from a total of five applicants.. Acting town Clerk Yonette Pluck was one of the applicants but never showed up for the interview.
Pluck was expected to revert to her substantive post as Deputy Town clerk soon after King was selected. To date pluck is still acting in the position as town clerk, preventing King from taking up his new post.
In an interview with the media Councilor Ranwell Jordan who moved the motion said that the council’s decision on this matter is final.
Jordan added that the council’s decision is one that should be respected, even by the Minister of Local government.
The Council believes that King brings a wealth of experience to the job. Over the years, there were several senior officers within the municipality who waited months and in some cases years to be confirmed by the minister.
