Four Year Old Dies In Fire
A tragic mid-morning fire which claimed the life of a four year old child, has plunged a Vryheid’s Lust family into deep mourning.
Dead is Nicholas Miraj of South Vryheid’s Lust Squatting area on the East Coast of Demerara.
Reports are that the fire which completely destroyed the two bedroom house, started at around 9 this morning. It is still not clear how the fire started, but there are unconfirmed reports that the child was playing with matches.
According to a few eyewitnesses the child and his older brother Patrick were left alone at home. Patrick however ran out of the house and Nicholas perished in the blaze.
The great grandmother who lives at the front house also confirmed this.
One neighbor said after hearing the loud screams, she immediately ran to render some assistance but it was too late.
The devastating news has also left several persons within the community in shock.
Members of the Guyana Fire Service are still to ascertain the cause of the fire.
And in a separate incident, Fire early Sunday morning destroyed a Wortmanville, Georgetown house, killing several pit bulls.
Reports are that the lone occupant whose name was given as Guthrie allegedly set his home ablaze. Persons in the area said that the man appeared under the influence of alcohol at the time of the tragedy. A neighbor’s house was also scorched during the ordeal.
The man is now in police custody and only two of his dogs were reportedly saved. The dogs lived inside the house with the man.
