New Town Clerk Still To Be Confirmed
Officials at the City Council are this evening concerned that the Minister of Local Government Kellowan Lall may be dragging his feet on confirming Public Relations Officer Royston King as the new town Clerk.
King was selected by the council as the most suitable candidate to fill the vacancy, from a total of five applicants. Acting town Clerk Yonette Pluck was one of the applicants but never showed up for the interview.
In an interview with this newscast Councilor Patricia Chase Green said that Pluck was expected to revert to her substantive post as Deputy Town clerk soon after King was selected. However pluck is still acting in the position as town clerk, preventing King from taking up his new post.
Chase Green further pointed out that over the years, there seems to be a trend in the appointment of senior officers within the municipality. She pointed to some officers who waited months and in some cases years to be confirmed.
The council plans to raise this issue at its next statutory meeting. When this newscast contacted Royston King today for a comment on this issue he said he can’t make any comments except to say that all the organizational protocols were meticulously followed.
