Soup Kitchen To Open By August
The government has officially announced that come August a soup kitchen will be opened. The new facility is a partnership with Bakewell owner Naeem Nasir.
The soup kitchen is being erected in the same compound with the Palms Geriatric Home on Brickdam. In a press statement from the Human Services Ministry the kitchen is expected to cater meals for over 25 thousand persons per day.
Persons who find themselves displaced and on the streets will be the beneficiaries of the new facility. Those responsible for the project are hoping to include a bathroom and shower for those displaced.
Lunch is expected to be served from 11am to 3pm daily. A take away bowl would also be enjoyed by beneficiaries.
Human Services Minister Priya Manickchand said the Government is pleased to be engaging with a member of the private sector on the initiative. She believes that the partnership will boost the government’s efforts to help the vulnerable in society.
The facility is currently being constructed and work is expected to be completed by the August deadline.
