Shortage In Cooking Gas
Oil Company, SOL Guyana also known as Shell which is one of the largest independent oil companies in the Caribbean has confirmed that there is a shortage of cooking gas at the moment in Guyana.
Consumers have since complained about the availability of the gas since they were simply told by some retailers that there is no gas until further notice.
But according to the company’s General Manager Ken Figaro, the shortage came after one of the supply ships encountered an engine problem on its way to Guyana. The manager said by Saturday a supply of cooking gas is expected in the country.
Figaro believes things should be back to normal by next week when the ship arrives. He said the local shortage came after the company made a decision to limit the amount of gas being distributed.
He also pointed out that the limitation on the distribution of gas was necessary to avoid a black market which could have seen consumers being charged more than the normal price for the cooking gas.
