Importers Of Medical Devices Being Reminded Of The Requirements To Import Testing Kits
Importers of medical devices are now being reminded about what are some of the requirements stimulated in the laws when it comes to the importation of testing kits. With this in mind the Ministry of Health’s Food and Drug Analyst Department on Friday held a meeting with some importers. Testing kits commonly use by consumers range from kits for diabetes to blood pressure and early pregnancy detection.
Director, Marilyn Collins said as part of its mandate the unit have to ensure that such devices which are being imported are of good quality and useful without giving wrong readings. She noted that this is an area that has been neglected for some time now.
Health Minister, Dr. Leslie Ramsammy stated that based on the number of testing kits being imported systems have to be put in place to ensure that proper monitoring is done since consumers are the ones at risk.
According to the Food and Drug Analyst Department there have been cases where some testing kits did not meet the standards of importation.
